In April 2022, Tanesha Walker, a 47-year-old grandmother from Indiana, died following a gluteal fat grafting procedure, commonly known as a Brazilian butt lift, at New Life Plastic Surgery in Florida. The autopsy revealed multiple fatty particles in her gluteus maximus muscles and lung vessels, and the cause of death was determined to be pulmonary embolism. The procedure was performed by Dr. Oliver Pope Simmons, a board-certified plastic surgeon, who subsequently had his license restricted to prohibit him from performing gluteal fat grafting procedures while retaining the ability to perform other surgeries and appeal the restriction
